Navigating the path to affordable health coverage can be tricky, especially for young adults. You may be in and out of school, changing jobs, or moving all around the country. Nice to know that thanks to the Affordable Care Act, you may have access to consistent health insurance coverage.
To help maintain that consistency, the HealthCare.gov family on Facebook has grown. Today we launched a new page dedicated to making sure that young adults and their parents know the steps they need to take to stay insured. Wait, my Mom is on Facebook? It’s okay. We understand that you don’t want her to “friend” everyone you know. But you do want her to learn what you both need to do to stay insured.
Check out the new page at: http://www.facebook.com/YoungAdultCoverage
Before the Affordable Care Act, health plans could remove enrolled children usually at age 19, sometimes older for full-time students. Now, most health plans that cover children must make coverage available to young adults up to age 26. Parents just need to enroll their children during the appropriate open enrollment period.
This gives young adults the flexibility to look for jobs and pursue the higher education of their choice. So go and follow your dreams. You can be independent, successful, and insured -- things that every parent wants for their young adult.
The new facebook page contains step-by-step instructions on how to stay covered, and features a video with Kalpen Modi, Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. We can’t promise that your Mom won’t spam your Facebook wall. But we can promise that you will both have the resources you need to stay insured.
