Report Food Stamp Program Fraud

Some people still take advantage of SNAP illegally. Even though SNAP’s transition from actual food stamps to the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card system has prevented the selling of food stamps, people can still get around the system by trading benefits.

For example, a SNAP beneficiary may trade $100 worth of their benefits in exchange of $70 cash to a participating retailer. The retailer will have a record of the “$100? transaction that they can claim from the government while the SNAP beneficiary receives cash to buy products prohibited by SNAP guidelines, like alcoholic drinks and cigarettes.

With millions of people going hungry, this kind of welfare fraud should be reported immediately. If you see such fraudulent practices, contact your State’s SNAP hotline number and report the incident.

About the food stamp program

The food stamp program, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is a welfare program that helps needy individuals and families buy the food they need for good health and to avoid hunger. Currently, more than 40 million people nationwide are receiving SNAP benefits.
